Arowana Thieves!

Gone were the days when people used to break into our home to steal electrical items, gold chains, money etc. Its the new era now and the thieves are getting smarter by day. Recently a break in was reported in the town of good old Melaka, the thieves went away with 20 Arowanas worth a whopping RM200,000 (This Is MADNESS! - The spartans accent) and was caught on CCTV. Tips: Setting Up a New Aquarium

1. When setting up a new fish aquarium, you must remember NOT to purchase the fish and put it in the same day. There is a very high chance it'll be the last time you will see it again.



2. Aquarium may take a large space in your house so if you are sharing it with your households, do remember to ask permission first as we don't want it to shatter to pieces should you guys involve in a fight.



3. When purchasing the equipment for a tank, don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone has their own preference as far as filters and equipment goes. Asking others how they have their tank set up and what filters they have can prevent you from trying different types of pumps and wasting your money. Aquarium standard sizes range from 1ft, 2ft, 3ft, 4ft and 5ft so choose wisely because you don't want to be moving your fishes to a new home every now and then. It's costly too!



4. Once done, wash your aquarium thoroughly and make sure the pump and filter are all in working condition. Fill the water up full and see if there's any cracks available, if there is, head down to the nearest hardware store and seal it with a silicone base glue if possible. If not, don't waste your time trying to fix it as you should have checked way before you purchase the aquarium :P



5. Leave the water for a week preferably and add about a kilo of salt into the water and that should stabilizes it. After that, your job is nearly completed and the rest is just the matter of choosing your favourite fish and you are done!!



6. Chill and relax with a cup of tea, raise your eyebrow with arrogance and say... "i did it...."

UMT AND PRIVATE COMPANY UNDERTAKE RESEARCH ON AROWANA

KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 7 -- Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is cooperating with the Bukit Merah Arowana Farm (BMAF) Sdn Bhd to undertake research works on the Arowana fish this year.

UMT Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Aziz Deraman said as a result of discussions between the two parties, BMAF saw an opportunity to set up a research laboratory on the ornamental fish at the UMT.

"Currently, they are providing some funds for research works by UMT at their place (in Bukit Merah, Perak).

"However, we will endeavour to have a laboratory set up at UMT, here so that they can bring up the issue on the industry at the university," he said when met by Bernama, here today.

Aziz said the project with the BMAF was among the focus of the UMT in the industry because the UMT had the expertise in agriculture, food as well as biotechnology.

BMAF is one of the biggest Arowana ornamental fish company operating in Bukit Merah, Perak and it exports the fish to several countries such as Japan, Taiwan, China, Korea, England, and Hong Kong.

The speciality of Malaysian Golden Arowana

Do you know that in the world, the Malaysian Golden Arowana (MG) can only be found and bred in the waters of Bukit Merah Perak? Scientists have yet to discover this special behaviour of the breed as the geographical and the natural surroundings of this place could be the reason behind this phenomena. More research is needed to study this as MGs are considered to be a protected endangered species and is also listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List (IUCN red list).

As being Arowana lovers, what do we have to do to stop it from being wiped out of the 'animal kingdom'? Breeding in captivity is definitely one of the ways but the process can be done mostly by big breeders as it requires hundreds of thousands of Ringgit to operate. The golden ring is amazingly bright with the blue background scale hence called the (Blue Base).
